Double-W Ranger features in Holstein International Magazine
Date Posted: 18th January 2021
The Holstein International Magazine, January 2021, has featured Double-W Ranger in its "Intriguing Daughter Proven Sires" article.
The article reads as follows:-
For the first time years, with Ranger, the Netherlands again has a progeny proven bull as the most used sire.
'Ranger is a nearly faultless sire that stands out for traits that are the focus of farmers in the Netherlands and Flanders: good production with high components, positive for all of the significant fitness traits and super strong for the body traits, udder and feet & legs,' says Jaap Brinkman from CRV, who indicates that many farmers are having positive experiences with Ranger daughters, and that his pedigree and transmitting profile offers a fitting combination for many cows.
Ranger is a Reflector out of Double-W Ricky 2 (Snowfever-Sterngold-Planet-Goldwyn). He transmits daughters that can handle quite a bit, says Brinkman. 'They are robust cows, with good balance, not too tall, with wide front ends and rumps, good rib depth, and a little extra muscle.'
The shallow udders, according to Brinkman, are well formed with good teat placement, making the udders suitable for every type of milking system. As such, the Ranger daughters move easily on their parallel-positioned legs.
Points of attention? Brinkman: 'Ranger transmits a high milking speed. For many cows (and farmers) this is a desirable attribute. But for cows that already milk quickly, it is better to make another choice.'
Many farmers are noticing too little strength and solidity in their cows, according to brinkman. 'In one generation Ranger can ensure sufficient robustness.'
